Zine moderating help

Looking for help in your project? I may be available either as a regular or emergency mod.I started my first zine in 2020 as a solo mod with no prior experience and completed the project within 9 months from recruitment to leftover sales with full bundle compensation to all contributors. I have since completed 10+ zines in various mod roles.I am open to any format (digital/physical, charity/profit) and age rating with preference for fandoms I'm familiar with and OC projects! Organisation

  • Experience with setting up Discord bots for zine servers (preference for Dyno)

  • Ready made sheet and form templates for application voting, contributor tracking, social schedule +more

Graphic & Layout

  • Completed emergency formatting within 2 weeks of receiving final files for multiple physical zines

  • Familiar with file set up requirements for common zine printers (Mixam, QinPrinting)

  • Programs used: InDesign for formatting, Photoshop for graphics, and After Effects for simple mographs and Live2D

I am currently taking on graphic and formatting roles as an emergency mod only.I am generally able to complete graphics with existing templates (spotlights, previews etc.) within 2-3 days and zine formatting within 2 weeks given the following:

  • contributor and mod information are current and easily accessible

  • submissions are final and of the correct specifications

  • graphic assets and font files are made available

finance & shipping

  • Completed production period for zine with specialty cover and 9 different merch types in under 6 weeks including troubleshooting and transit times

  • Packed and shipped 250+ preorder and contributor packages with hand melted wax seals within 1 month with only 1 damaged and 0 lost packages

  • Access to US shipping address to receive heavy bulk transfers from other US shipping mods as emergency shipping

Please note that I am based in Canada. I've listed some pros and cons of a Canada-based mod as compared to a US one below:

  • Significantly lower shipping rates for Canada and, on average, slightly lower international rates as compared to PirateShip in the US

  • Similar shipping rates for US bound packages as compared to PirateShip

  • Able to utilise Friend and Family transfers in PayPal

  • Prepayment of customs fees required for US-bound packages

  • Unable to receive returned packages from outside of Canada

  • Popular US-based manus (CatPrint, Stickerbunnies) may not be viable due to higher shipping costs

This is not an exhaustive list and is only based on my own personal observations.

I encourage mod teams to do their own research on US vs. non-US based Finance/Production/Shipping mods.

art/merch

  • Participated in 30+ zines as art mod, contributor (cover, page, merch & spot), as well as promo artist

  • Familiar with file requirements for zines and common physical and digital merch

CN Communications

  • Native Chinese speaker with some knowledge of fandom and zine terminology

  • Experience managing zine LOFTER accounts and QQ groups, and setting up info docs and forms through QQ and wenjuan for Mainland China contributors

  • Able to assist with making CN graphics

If your zine is considering recruiting CN guests, I can help translate for the initial contact without formally joining the mod team. In the event where no CN contributors end up in the zine, I will leave the project unless otherwise needed in another role. No compensation is necessary in this case.I am not able to translate any extensive info docs under this arrangement. (single page invitation letter OK)
